once upon a time I was a blogger....

This year is going to be the worst blog book on record! I feel bad that I have fallen off the blog bandwagon but I am running like crazy to get back on:) I blog for my kids. I am not a journal keeper and I have the memory of a 105 year old so this is the forem that I have choosen to write things down. I hope that someday my kids will think it is cool or at least tell me it is cool so I can feel good about myself:)
A few weeks ago someone asked me why I don't blog anymore and I thought about it and this is what I came up with...
#1- I let life get in the way of something that I felt was important. We all have lots going on in our lives. No matter what we have to make time for the things that we feel are important. I felt like I gave so much in other areas of my life that when it came to doing things that I felt were important for me there was no time or energy.
#2- no one wants to hear when your life is crap. This reminds me of the worst movie of all times Bambi when Thumper says, "if you don't got anything nice to say don't say nothin' at all" I agree but I also want my kids to know how REAL lives are. The good, the bad, and the stinkin funny!
So I have decided that writing something is better than nothing and hopefully someday when my kids are reading this blog they will learn something important about life. It may not be anything life altering but hopefully it give them enough of a boost to get their big girl panties on and get to work:)

the ever loved girl scout cookies...

i have this serious LOVE for girls scout cookies. i mean SERIOUS! it is one of those addictions where an intervention is required. well since my pants don't fit and i am in training i made the commitment to
EAT NO GIRL SCOUT COOKIES this year.
i know crazy right? so when I saw those cute little girls on the corner of the round about i kind of thought about running there little behinds over (just kidding...kind of). instead i just stepped on the gas and flew through the yield sign. i am sure i cut off some poor unsuspecting round about driver who, i am sure, was admiring the girls scout cookies too. after patting myself on the back i went home vowing to not drive main street for the next month for fear they would still be there. i was so sure i had made it then...we went to my sisters house.
of course she had the all coveted SAMOAS!!!! i almost felt like having a seizure.
WHY CANT I GET AWAY FROM THESE COOKIES!!!
she is so sweet that of course she offered me some. with clenched teeth i respectfully and tearfully declined but ella did not. "aunt rorie" put 3 cookies in a baggie and sent us on our way. as we drove home i jealously watched ella from the rear view mirror eat her cookies. i thought about stealing one but what kind of mother does that anyway! she ate 2 and took a bite out of the third and promptly announced she was done and dropped it in her car seat. i thought about that dang cookie the rest of the way home. when i took ella out of her car seat there the cookie was.
lots of thoughts were going through my germ-a-phobic mind. in a moment of totally weakness and sure insanity ...
I ATE THE COOKIE!!!
makes me gag just a little thining about it even now.
SICK!!! i cant believe i did it!
it was in the bottom of her car seat for the love of everything that is holy! i should have just licked the walmart shopping cart.
YUCK!
please dont think less of me like i said it was a moment of weakness. surly i am not the only one with this disorder? in fact i found a website about how to mindfully eat girl scout cookies. i am not kidding. one of their lame suggestions was to freeze a box. REALLY? they obviously don't know the amount of LOVE that is involved with SAMOAS. i would break a tooth for one. they did suggest to stop and ask yourself "do i want more?" what are these people, idiots? heck yes i want more!
 LOTS MORE!
their last suggestion was to eat mindfully and remember that they are only sold once a year. well this makes this chubby, girl scout cookie lovin' self want to bawl.
there is no hope. i guess until i find some self control or a better website i am on my own!
scary thought huh?

this and that...

Last night we were having scripture study and we were talking about how we have been asked to follow the commandments. Mckena (surprise surprise) asked,"well if we don't follow the commandments will we go to HE double hockey sticks?" Josh said well we could, but all we have to do is follow the commandments and we don't have to worry about it. Mckena shaking her head said, "great I'm goin' down!" Obviously we really hit home don't ya think??

Preston had his maturation program at school today. He did not want to go! The paper said the word SE_ and he did not want to talk about it. TOO BAD we said! Hey it is part of growing up right? So I signed the paper and Josh had a little chat with him before hand and guess what?? He SURVIVED! Miraculous I know!

Abbie tried out for cheer leading and she made it! She was so stinkin excited she could hardly stand herself. I on the other hand was not to thrilled about the super crazy cheer leading moms that were there. You know the ones I am talking about? Running around counting 5,6,7,8. and chatting with anyone who will listen about the cheer and OH MY GOSH! what am I going to do if my daughter doesn't make it!!! It was kind of an out of body experience for me. If this is what it is like for 5th grade cheer I can only imagine what it would be like in high school. YIKES!!!

Since Ella has been potty training we have been talking about private parts at our house. We have decided we need to call them something different because Ella cant say it she call it her PARTY PARTS. Not really sure how this came to be other than maybe she is attempting to say potty parts?? Either way an intervention needs to happen. Today she told me her party parts are hurting and she wants big daddy to buy her a new one. As you can see we are in BIG trouble. What if she announced that at walmart?? Yeah it is time for some reprogramming to happen.
Wish me luck!

the ruler and a lesson...

So last week I think I may have lost it for a second..well maybe two but I got it together at the last minute before major damage was done. PHEW!
Does anyone else seem to have issues at their house in the morning? Knowing all of my friends and family probably not. Your houses probably run like clock work. Your children do all they are asked to.. no one fights...chores are done...cue the angels singing. Well my house the last few months has be HIDEOUS! It seems like no matter what I do nothing seems to be working which leads me to the ruler.
This particular morning the kids had all been fighting (like they have for the last couple of months) and I had had it. After giving them the, "for the love of everything that is holy, get it together" lecture, I went back to making lunches. Preston was pretending to pick up the kitchen and Mckena was finishing her breakfast. When Mckena made the fatal mistake of wiping her mouth on the dishcloth. Preston said, "sick Mckena! Now we cant use that to wipe the table off! Go put it in the dirty clothes!" Mckena looked at him and threw it down the stairs onto the floor. This is when Preston felt the need to appoint himself as the "new mother" and he whacked her on the leg with the ruler he was holding! At 12 ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This is the moment when something inside me snapped! I grabbed the ruler and I thought lets see how you like it. WHAT?? At 35 ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Well don't call DCSF yet cause I didn't whack him with it although I thought about it. Since I had officially lost it I didn't even talk to him about it. I just pointed to his room and gave him the "you better run" look. After they left for school. I sat down and thought What the heck am I doing?? I am the worst mother. I am probably damaging my kids everyday. Maybe I should get a job and put them in daycare. They would probably be better off. Then my friend called. I told her the story and we laughed a little and then she  shared a conversation she had with her older sister who's  has kids in high school. I am probably going to butcher this so just hang in there with me. She said looking back on the years when her kids were young it was tough. She felt at times her kids would be better off in the care of someone else but now that they are older she can see the benefit it has made for her kids that she was home. She said no one can love your kids as much as you do and that makes all the difference.
Now this is not a post of stay at home moms versus working moms. I love and respect many moms in the work force. Every ones situation is different and as moms we do what we have to do for our families. I just felt like I wasn't making the cut at my house. It was good to hear AGAIN that what I am doing is important. I may not be important or valued in the eyes of society but I will always be the mom to my kids. So I will get MY act together, I will make dinner, do laundry, wipe boogers, change diapers, listen about the cute boy at school, friend woes, and support my kids in all that they do. Then someday, I will hopefully see the benefits of my efforts and it will be worth it all of moments I felt like giving up but didn't.

thursdays thoughts...

dinner conversation
mckena- mom can i have another piece of bacon?
me- you bet
mckena (crossing her legs and putting her hand on her cheek)- you make the best bacon. what is your secret ingredient?
me- laughing
mckena- mom i am serious. it is the best ever! you MUST have a secret ingredient.
me- nope it just comes that way.
i did not mention that the reason it tastes so good is the really just the fat. i'll let her live in denial for a little while longer.

seriously considered whacking preston with a ruler yesterday. i know what you are thinking...SHE HAS LOST IT!!!! well please don't call DCFS yet cause i said considered. more on this in a later post please stay tuned.

bought the kids their valentines to give their classmates. i remembered when i was in the 1st grade i took my valentines and spent all afternoon getting them ready to give my classmates at our party the next day. then at dinner i announced to my mom that i was all done with my valentines. she asked me what i put on them i told her
happy valentines day, love pam
my sister said wow, you LOVE all the boys and girls in your class? then my brothers thought that was funny so you can only imagine the crap i put up with during the longest dinner of my life. when i was done i went straight up to my room to my purple desk and opened everyone one of the envelopes and changed them to this...
happy valentines day
LOV E like Pam
except for scott blacks because  i really did love him:)

happy thursday! i like i mean LOVE you!

my hott date...

was not as HOTT as I had planned. Josh and I were invited to go play cards with our super fun friends  tonight then he came home from the Klondike sicker than when he left. So...plans changed and I got a movie and we were going to lay on the couch with our blankey and sip on nyquil. Well he was going to do the sipping, I on the other hand was going to get myself a big bowl of this new ice cream I wanted to try and see if I could make myself go into a sugar coma. SO... we  fed the kids. They watched a little bit of a movie. We read books said prayers and off to bed they went. When I looked at Josh he looked like a haggard old man (don't tell him I said that). So plans changed. I called my trusty brother in law got him some drugs, made him eat chicken noodle soup, got out the big -ol- jar of VICKS (LOVE that stuff), and after a shot of nyquil sent him to bed. So my HOTT date consisted of slathering my man up with VICKS, making cupcakes for a super bowl party that I am not sure we will even be going to, and blogging. Oh well mama said there would be days like this:)

p.s. I still ate the ice cream and it was nasty:( Going to stick to the slow churn 1/2 the fat rocky road.
